The Yeast Commission of the Czechoslovak Society for Microbiology was estabilished by prominent Czechoslovak yeast scientists Drs. Anna Kocková-Kratochvílová and Erich Minárik in 1964. The purpose of the creation of the Yeast Comission (YC) was to bring together researchers and students from various research institutions, universities and industry interested in yeast research in order to facilitate dissemination of new knowledge among them. After the split of Czechoslovakia into Czech Republic and Slovakia in 1993, the Czechoslovak Society for Microbiology as well as its Yeast Comission remained intact, continuing to integrate Czech, Moravian and Slovak microbiologists and yeast scientists respectively. Dr. A. Kocková-Kratochvílová and Dr. E. Minárik were also among the initiators and founders of the International Commission on Yeasts (ICY). The birth of the ICY took place during the 2 nd International Symposium on Yeasts held in Bratislava (Slovakia) in 1966.
